Director of Marketing



Small businesses make up 46% of the US private sector output, and historically represent 61.5% of new job creation. Mercantile is building new credit card products that are specifically designed for these businesses. We start by establishing a deep understanding of our customers and deliver customized solutions that are truly unique. We’re a lean team spread across North America, making an impact on the way small businesses can save. We’re looking for a full-time Director of Marketing to join our team and analyze the businesses we support at a granular level. This position reports directly to the President and founder and will be an integral part of building Mercantile and it's product from the ground up.

You will:

  • Be responsible for the conversion rate metric and spending metric for our cards
  • Understand SMB customer needs through additional research and building continuous feedback loops
  • Oversee creative development, channel management, and positioning
  • Manage and grow relationships with existing and future partners as the key operational touchpoint between them and the founding team
  • Define joint marketing strategies, objectives, and measures of success with our top technology partners
  • Build joint messaging and produce co-marketing specific assets and integrated campaigns
  • Execute co-marketing plans and activities to drive scaled acquisition through partners
  • Evaluate and improve our engagement holistically with partners
  • Work with Product, Engineering, Partnerships, and exec team to grow partners
  • Responsible for product launch planning and execution

  • Experience with financial and business case modeling to support partner growth plans
  • Strong examples that you are a self-starter, creative, adaptable
  • 8+ years of experience in a partner marketing, partner management, or account management role
  • Unquestionable ethics & integrity
  • A willingness to take calculated risks

Nice to haves:

  • Experience building Fintech channel marketing funnels
  • An understanding of small business owners
  • Experience working with underwriting teams to inform impacts of APR, grace periods, or other lending product characteristics
