At Courier we are on a mission to make computer-to-human software communication delightful. Our first step in achieving this is to do for notification infrastructure what Stripe has done for payments infrastructure. We’ve created the complete communication stack for developer teams.

Our API takes the tedium out of integrating various notification channels, while our Studio lets anyone design a message template and deliver the right message to the right user at the right time with a single API call. Email, Push, Slack, SMS, you name it.

ABOUT the role

More than two-thirds of our team joined in the past twelve months. It’ll likely be something similar at the end of next year. In order to support that kind of team growth, we are going to need some help. That’s where you come in!

You will be the first and, for now, only person in your role. As the owner and builder of this function, you will need to develop and execute on your own vision for sourcing and hiring from near-scratch. You will take complete ownership over the hiring process and transform it from the ad-hoc processes we conduct today to a seamless, well-oiled machine. You will assist hiring managers on all teams at Courier in sourcing and screening candidates and providing them with the best experience they have ever had during a hiring process.

You will be expected to take ownership and execute without defined instructions and implicit direction. We're looking for candidates who raise the level of our team. You should value and practice transparency, have the humility to accept your weaknesses and continuously strive to improve both personally and professionally.


  • Build and execute effective candidate sourcing and assessment strategies based on needs across the organization, but with an emphasis on the needs of our engineering team.
  • Take ownership of our applicant tracking system, ensure all data is accurate and up to date, and relentlessly track down interviewer feedback to keep our hiring on track.
  • Work with hiring managers to track the recruiting pipeline and hit our hiring targets.
  • Understand Courier's culture and key requirements for each role to take over initial screening of all candidates.
  • Coordinate and manage existing and new relationships with recruiting firms to augment your own sourcing pipeline.
  • Help build Courier's brand as an employer to attract world-class talent.

Security & Compliance

Courier takes protecting the data of our customers – and of their notification recipients – seriously. Every Courier employee goes through security training and a background check as part of onboarding. Each employee is expected to follow Courier's security and compliance processes, and uphold industry best practices.



  • 4+ years of experience in full-cycle recruiting preferably in high-growth startups. Must have experience sourcing and qualifying technical candidates in the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Self-motivated individual who can demonstrate initiative, maturity, and discretion. We don’t micromanage at Courier. You are going to be the first point of contact for many of our potential hires and will need to communicate the company's culture accordingly.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently prioritize and manage many tasks at once with excellent communication and organization. This is a startup - you need to be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities and requirements can change at a moment’s notice.
  • You are passionate about ensuring that each candidate who interviews at Courier has a unique and positive experience and you are not afraid to use creative approaches to improve our hiring success.
