ABOUT the role

As the Software Engineer at Ample, you will help solve very complex challenges involving electric vehicles, robotics and smart battery technology, by combining creative tech design with fast iteration. As an Ample Software Engineer you will work on problems that will require some thoughtful creativity. Your work will have a high impact and be deployed into production systems. You are goal oriented and operate with a sense of urgency.

Key challenges you will face in this role will include solving complex problems that require creativity and mindfulness. You will be building and testing software to control and monitor electromechanical systems for a larger robotic / automotive system.


Our team is highly collaborative - we work in the San Francisco Mission District (near Caltrain and Bart). All employees are fully vaccinated against COVID-19; anyone working for Ample MUST be fully vaccinated before starting.


  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or similar related field
  • Minimum 3-5+ years of industry experience writing production level code
  • Expertise in C / C++ software development for real-world products
  • Demonstrated industry experience with system Integration (end to end projects)
  • Comfortable with designing, testing and verification at both the system and component levels.
  • Demonstrated experience developing application software for electromechanical systems
  • Working knowledge of feedback and control mechanisms and concepts
  • Basic knowledge of networking and communication protocols
  • Basic knowledge of source control (Git) and C++ build tools
  • Enthusiastic, motivated and self-driven

Nice to haves:

  • Computer vision expertise implementing pose estimation, object detection and classification pipelines via lidar or camera based sensing
  • Coordination and planning of multi-axis motion systems
  • Motor sizing, calibration, controls and interfacing
  • Experience in calibration of motion systems for high accuracy and repeatability
